Week 3 from the MTC‏

Hola familia y amigos,

This week has flown by and I can hardly believe that it's already another P-day. It's a good thing it is though, because I needed to wash my socks :) Anyways, I actually wrote down stuff to tell you this week, so hopefully I'll forget less:
A joke for ya'll that Hermano Adlish told us this week is for anyone with a basic understanding of Spanish, it's ok if you don't get it. ¿Qué hace un pez? Respuesta: Nada. Hahahaha Yes, it's the small and simple things.
I loved getting to see Sister Miles' mom, she was a delightful member to talk to. We basically just got to practice our Spanish skills in a comfortable but bugged and videotaped environment, which was a little distracting because they didn't exactly tell us that we were being supervised by our teachers. Anyways, she was fun to talk to. You would be surprised how small the world is. Hermana Schultz personally knew the speaker on Sunday (Holzapfel someone), so right after the devotional prayer, we seriously sprinted down to the front, leaping down the stairs and hurdling elders to get to see him for her. I hope you got the picture. We got to go past the big scary security guard, and we also got to talk to the President of the MTC, which was cool. Apparently once you're through the doors, you're in like flint.

Boston, I keep meaning to tell you that your friend Rachel (the blond one) works down at the cafeteria here on West Campus, so I say hi to her about every other meal :)

This week we also had the coolest lesson with Luz our teacher acting as an investigator. She had been having problems finding the faith to believe that Heavenly Father would listen to her prayers. I promised her that if she would pray with us out loud, she would feel God's love for her. Then I prayed like crazy that it would work, and it did. The Spirit in the room was so strong and we made her tear up (which I'm pretty sure is right next to impossible) and even Hermana Schultz started to tear up. It was the coolest thing. I am learning the importance of having the authority to promise things like that and having our Heavenly Father fulfill them :)

On Sunday we went to the Testament movie after the devotional. For those who have seen it, you probably barely noticed this, but at the MTC, it was very obvious when there was a kissing scene. It pretty much caused an uproar, and a bunch of people kept yelling "page 33!" which is where the section on appropriate conduct with the opposite sex can be found in the Missionary Handbook. It was hilarious. One of the Elders behind us commented to his companion that it was totally a chickflick, so why were they watching it anyway? Hermana Dennis made fun of me for commenting that their use of a Monarch butterfly for the scene set in Jerusalem was a little wrong. It's the small things that make you happy these days :)

So we failed our room inspection this week--apparently they actually check to see if you cleaned the tub. We got reported to the Branch President, and I asked him what we should do about it: he told me to "Uplift, Inspire, and Motivate for better results". I thought that was pretty funny. We won't fail it again if it kills me though, so there's that.

I have had the opportunity to get to know my Zone leaders pretty well because I have the privilege of going to pretty much every meeting with them on Mondays. They are Elders Medieros, Engerson, and St. John. I will send you pictures of them next week if I take some. Elder Medieros is a fantastic piano player and he is super friendly. Yesterday in Volleyball, I totally shut them down with some amazing blocks and a few great spikes, so I felt pretty awesome. They are basically just super awesome and I am glad that I have the opportunity to serve with them for a while.

Speaking of my most recent job, my Hermanas nuevas got here and they are fantastic! I am already super happy to have more Hermanas around and they're all getting along, so I don't have to worry about too many things, which is great. They are all adjusting well :) I sent a picture, I hope it turned out.

Something that I have thought was funny that I keep forgetting to write about is that since day 1, Hermana Schultz has been telling Hermana Westman and I that she's going to get up and go running with us. Times she's actually gone: 0. Even Hermana Dennis has gone with us once, but H. Schultz, the one with the most talk, hasn't. It's just funny. I don't even try to get her up anymore :)

Sundays are spectacular. I really enjoy all of the meetings, and we get to attend a broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word in the morning before Relief Society. It's nice to sit and listen to music--there isn't a whole lot of that here. We have a testimony meeting every Friday with our district, and I've really enjoyed getting to share deep thoughts and experiences with one another. We've all become super good friends, and yesterday my companions decided that if Elder Barrett (who is like the epitome of righteousness, even more obedient than me) were companions, we'd get so much stuff done. I'm inclined to agree, they'd have sent us to Argentina totally fluent by now :). I'm like the Mom of our district, and he's like the quiet example.

It was Elder Coomb's birthday last week, so we kind of organized a little bit of a party. We brought some brownies that a few of the other Elders had sent for Hermana Westman and we ate them with the help of like two other districts. It was a little distracting, and I felt bad because I was sort of maybe helping to perhaps mastermind it just a little. Ooops. Learned my lesson, and we're not having another party. Ever. (At least that I may have sort of accidentally set in motion).

My scripture of the week is 3 Nephi 5:13 :) It's a good one. Song of the week: I Know That My Redeemer Lives. We've had a lot of lessons on the Atonement this week and how we as Missionaries can live and teach it better. It has been super awesome to grow closer to my Savior and keep learning. My Spanish is still going really well, and I love the language!

We now have what's called a Progressing Investigator named Carlos, and we teach him lessons every day except Tuesday and Sunday, our first lesson was only 15 minutes and he mostly just told us about him :) I'll let you know more about it next week.

As always, I love getting emails, letters and Dear Elders from all of you, thanks for the love and support! Hope you have a wonderful week!

Love,
Hermana Swan
