So this week has been pretty great. We have finally sort of figured out life at the MTC, and I think that I'm actually pretty excited to get my travel plans on Friday! I'll let you know next week what the actual plan is, but we are expected to leave the 22nd of September to wherever we've been assigned to go. My whole district besides Elder Hansen and Hermana Schultz that are going to Bolivia are probably going to leave together, but Hermana Westman's fingerprints haven't gone through, so we'll see if she gets to join us.
So this week has been pretty mellow, but funny stuff still happens. Hermana Schultz is a little bit of an incurable flirt (she doesn't realize she does it, but yeah). Well, sometime last week she had an Elder ask her "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?". She was a little taken-aback and just tried to play it cool. When we went to the movie on Sunday night we saw the same Elder and he immediately apologized for hitting on her. Then he asked for her email address. She was like "WHAT?" and tried to play that cool too. He ran off somewhere, and then last night he gave her a card that basically said "I love you, you should write me at...". We all died laughing. I hope he leaves this next week, he's one of those two week fast track Elders and I think it made Hermana Schultz a little frustrated, but I found it hilarious. It hasn't changed anything about her personality though. Anyway, we just try to avoid him and don't leave her alone anywhere, even though she wanders a little occasionally when we're going places (usually she's just talking to someone and gets distracted). Anyway, la lucha es real.
So Elder Barrett once got up in the middle of one of our practice lessons and went to the fridge to get his water bottle. It made the loudest noise and it was like he was trying to rip the door off it's hinges, at least that's how it seemed in the silence. We all cracked up a little at his obvious zeal for his cold water, but unbeknownst to us he was actually having a hard time breathing due to a cold. Anyway, I think you just had to be there.
On Sunday Hermana Schultz lead the music and was totally off beat the entire time. Hermana Westman about had a heart attack because it is usually her job, and it drove her nuts the whole time. Later, President Lisonbee's wife asked Hermana Schultz if she didn't usually lead the music. I don't think she knows that she was off the whole time, but I guess a few of us noticed, and even fewer cared. I just found it amusing.
Hermana Westman has this thing against the misuse of the word "literally". She hates it when we use it when we mean "figuratively". She decided on the bus that she is going to put "I Literally Died" on her tombstone.
All of my Hermana's are doing really well. I think that everything is looking up and they are all adjusting well. Hermana Lake has gotten used to her new district and being more challenged with the language, and she's now loving the MTC :) Poor Hermana Stice got delayed, and she'll be staying here at the MTC for another 8 weeks, so she was having a hard time with that, but I guess she better be fluent when she leaves haha. Hermana Perry has been greatly blessed by the switching of our MTC teacher to Hermano Turley from Hermano Adlish. Hermano Turley has given her so much more confidence, and Hermana Westman has been fervently praying that something would happen. The language is just a little bit of a struggle for Hermana Perry, and she gets really frustrated with it. I think that she will pick it up, but she's just got to have the faith to try to say stuff even though she's afraid of saying it wrong. I love getting to see the Hermanas and I love meeting with all of them. We switch Senior companions this week, so that should make things exciting and change it up a bit. Speaking of change, Elder Barrett is now our district leader--no surprise there. He is so obedient he outshines me in some areas (I know, it's shocking). Anyways, I think that will be a fun change too.
I keep up my reputation of Mama Duck and Elder Lindsay gave me the nickname of "Eve" because I'm like the "mother of everyone". I have taken up doing some mending as a service to the Elders--I don't know how they keep getting the ripped seams and ties, but it's fun and easy to fix them. I will have to have a "how to sew" class before we all leave though because they and Hermana Schultz are clueless when it comes to a needle and thread. Basically, I don't know what my district would do without me. Or the Elder's District either, as I've done mending for them too.
On Friday we had probably the most spiritual experience so far. All of us Hermanas decided last week that we wanted Priesthood blessings. Well on Friday, before our District Testimony Meeting, we got them. All of the Elders except for Elder Coombs (he gave a blessing to Hermana Perry earlier last week) gave the five of us blessings. Mine was given by Elder Barrett and was not only beautiful, but exactly what I needed to hear. I felt like we were falling apart a little bit, and I needed something to get me back on my feet. That certainly did the trick. I have such a testimony of the power of the Priesthood and that God knows each one of us personally, and He knows exactly what we need. There were things mentioned in my blessing that Elder Barrett had no idea that I was struggling with or that I'd been praying about. I know that the Lord see's fit to bless us with things on account of our faithfulness and our needs, and I had both. It has made this whole week go by so much better.
Our 'investigators' are doing really well and we have committed Luz and Raul (Hermana Williams and Hermano Turley) to baptism, so we must be doing something right as La Trio :) Carlos our more real investigator is doing really well, but we have a much harder time understanding his accent. We stay pretty busy preparing lessons for them and our other random investigators, but we're getting much better at delivering the lessons and our Spanish has monumentally improved since we got here. I love the language, and "Hi" is starting to sound super strange. Also simple words like "thank you" and basically anything said in a prayer. I have a feeling i'll be one of those missionaries that has a hard time with English when I get home.
We got to attend the temple today, and it might be the last time we get to do an Endowment session, it just depends on how much time we have next week.
Hermana Dennis's sister in law had a baby last Saturday, and she surprised us and showed up outside of the temple after our session! Hermana Dennis had no idea that they were going to do that, but I think it was good for her. She got to meet her nephew, and her brother is taking the blame for the meeting. I think it's great, we got some pictures, I'll have to send one after this email :)
Hope all of you are doing great, I think that's about all I can think of to report on this week, so keep the letters, dear elders and emails coming, I love to hear from you :)
Love,
Hermana Swan
Elders Medeiros (going to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) and Fillmore (yes, he's the crazy one that I have tons of stories about on his way to Madrid, Spain next week)
Brother Dennis, Sister-in-law Dennis, Baby Dennis (Bryant) and Hermana Dennis :)
