So as the tagline states, this has been a crazy week...well, just that
we've had some strange and crazy stuff happen and it´s only my first
week with Hermana Regalado. Anyways, so my story begins on Monday of
last week.
We were at Presidente Abate Daga´s house so that Hermana Regalado
could meet him and we could come up with a good battle plan for this
transfer. We of course talked for a long time, and then we realized
that we needed to book it home to get to the pension on time...so we
started running! :D It was so much fun, and it was raining, so it was
cool...and then all the sudden I ended up flat on my face on the
pavement. Ugh. Yes, there was a crack there. Basically, my bag took
the bulk of my fall, except I scraped up my elbow and my knees really
bad. So we stumbled back to the pension to take a look. They were
actually pretty deep, so we had to clean them out (they apparently
don´t do that for you here) and that was gruesome. Little pebbles fell
out of my elbow into the sink. Gross. So we had to call Presidente to
take us to the hospital because we didn´t have bandages big enough to
deal with this type of thing. So he came with his family and made me
scrub again with an audience, and we went to the hospital. They
bandaged me up and told me I couldn´t move my arm for a few days. They
also took a look at my knees. They offered to give me a shot in the
hip for the pain, but I was more afraid of the shot in a foreign
country in a free medical clinic than the pain, if you know what I
mean.
So all was pretty much fine and dandy, and I just had to go back the
next few days in the mornings to get re bandaged. We told my district
leader, and he said, "Well, Hermana Swan, you´ve got to look where
you´re going". He´s a little bit new to this whole District leader
thing haha. Anyways, so the next morning when we went to get it
checked, we ran into a lady who was really cool! She has lived in
Utah, and her husband was actually a recent reference for us, but we
could never find him. We kept running into her that day because she
wasn´t feeling well, and I had to get an x-ray to make sure my elbow
was fine. I told them it wasn´t broken, but they did it anyways...por
las dudas (and it wasn´t broken, but now I have an x-ray from
Argentina that I get to keep!). What a recuerdo, no? Yeah, I´m pretty
sure we need to go talk to this lady if it took me being a klutz to
run into her.
So on Tuesday, there was a really big, sudden storm, and it flooded my
bed because we left the window open in the pension. Good thing we had
extra matresses, because it took two days to dry out.
On Thursday we went to Laguna Larga and had awesome lessons. The
coolest part was that we went to one house. When we got there, there
was only a girl named Fatima and her friend Catalina. So we taught
them a lesson on prayer, and then right as we finished, Fatima´s mom
got home and they needed to go somewhere. So then we got to teach a
lesson to Fatima´s mom. It was like we were saying, "Ok, who´s next?".
I loved the rotation, and it was really good to get more personal time
with the different members of the family because we can better teach
to their individual needs.
Our investigator Monica is doing really well, and we´re helping her
quit smoking. She´s been smoking less and less these past few weeks,
but still hasn´t been able to quit quit. However, she does want to be
baptized, so we´re making goals with her :)
Everyone here is missing the Hermana Tuttle...Coca, Jesus Angel,
Monica. Pretty much everyone, and yes, I miss her too! Hope you´re
having a good P-day in La Falda Hermana! :)
So one of the funniest things that Hermana Regalado said this week:
Ok, background. Here, they have ice cream that is like Play Dough flavor
at home with the lots of colors but they call it Super Gridito.
Hermana Regalado said, "Super Gridito looks like a unicorn threw up!".
But in Spanish =D Yes, I´m learning the ins and outs of humor in
Spanish, since that´s about all we speak these days. She is learning
English, but doesn´t understand a whole lot if I speak at normal pace
(really fast) and with my Utahn accent she has an even harder time,
pobrecita (yes Harsh, she can tell that I speak differently than
everybody else, and I don´t pronounce the T´s. I know). I really love
having her as my companion though because I´m learning so much...my
mind is BLOWN! (Hey, will someone please relay the congrats to Taylor
on his mission call? THAT¨S SO AWESOME!! I´M SO EXCITED FOR
YOU!Thanks! :) (He is going to Taiwan)
We´ve eaten a lot of good food lately too. Hermana Regalado makes
really good rice. Also, she knows how to do the flaming chicken thing,
and it´s not only delicious, it´s fun to watch her cook! She makes
really tasty everything, and she brought hot chili peppers from her
other area, so we have salsa ^.^
Basically, life here is good, and we´re making headway. The Lord´s
work is moving forward in His own mysterious ways. I´m happy, and
learning so much every day about myself and the people around me and
what I can do to help them. I hope you can all have a fantastic week,
free of accidents, and that you can do something to reach out to at
least one person this week. It doesn´t necessarily have to be gospel
related, but just a little something to raise someone else up :) By
small means are great things brought to pass!
Love to all, and thanks for all you do!
Sincerely,
Hermana Swan
