Hola todos,
This week has been full of ups and downs. A lot of miracles and a lot of, well, not exactly the best that it could have gone. That´s just how it is in the mission.
Well, first for the miracles, in case I don´t have time. So on Tuesday we were going to Laguna Larga, and we got talking to one of the hermanas from the ward on the collectivo (we didn´t get our 20 min nap), and then we forgot to stay on the bus when we got to the terminal to get off at our usual stop. Then there was a terrible smell due to something that died a huge puddle, so we didn´t travel our usual route, and then something else happened, and eventually we ended up on the porch of a cute little old lady. I asked her if she needed help sweeping, because it was during the hottest part of the day, and she said no (here you literally have to yank the broom out of their hands to help!). Hermana Regalado then began talking to her, and as we made the contact, we gave her one of our Questions of the Soul cards that is the question, will I be with my family after this life? or something like that. We have like 8 different questions on the cards, but I "happened" to give her this one. We ended up praying with her, and when we finished, the cute little old lady named Irma was crying. Hermana Regalado and I looked at each other and then hugged her. She just recently lost her spouse named Pablo. The Lord truly does prepare his children to hear the gospel, and He guides the feet of His messangers to find those he has prepared.
We also have been having a lot of success with Familia Cepeda lately! They are so cute, and they came to church on Sunday!!!! Our numbers in our district jumped drastically with 6 investigators and 3 more little kids, it was awesome! They loved it. The best part is, I had the wonderful opportunity to give my first class in Spanish...por lo menos we had investigators! It was great though, some members attended my class to help me out. It was on the Creation, so it wasn´t actually that difficult :)
They don´t really celebrate Valentine´s that much here, but we did make Valentines for some of the families we visited. We gave one to our neighbor with some American Chocolates (from Christmas, but what do they know?), and it pretty much made her day. They really just give chocolates to their spouse or something pretty small. Apparently it´s called Día de Familia y Amistades (day of friends and family) or something like that in Peru, so if you´re looking for less haters of Valentine´s day, look there. There were a few people here who were a little bit bothered by it, but usually only if they´re single. Qué se yo. Anyways, there´s the culture overview...not exactly the biggest party.
On Saturday, we got to eat lunch with Family Sarmiento. We had Papas Rusias (Cubed potatoes and carrots in a mayonaise sauce) and Grilled Chicken. It was delicious. For dessert we had homeade ice cream. Here they have little packets that you mix with milk and a few other things and freeze it, and it turns out an interesting, yet delicious ice cream. Do we even have something like that in the US? The coolest part of the lunch is that we were able to eat lunch with Monica too :)
Well, sorry, ran out of time, but hope you all have a great week, and feel the love from here in Argentina.
Sincerely,
Hermana Swan
